ARTIST   STATEMENT

I am a one person operation who designs and makes one-of-kind and limited edition pieces in karat gold, sterling or a combination of both as well as in other metals. I use both precious and semi-precious gems. I will take the most unusual stone that I can find and then design around it. The majority of my work is fabricated as opposed to lost wax casting. I am drawn to the versatility of the torch and the ability to solder different colors of metal together. Working directly with the metals and their different characteristics for me is much more rewarding and exciting than working in wax. When I first started out in jewelry I leaned towards fluid, organic designs but now my designs are much more geometric in nature, as I am drawn to the beautiful linear designs in the works of Frank Lloyd Wright and the Arts & Crafts Movement of the late 1800's.

RESUME

Denise Brucato is a jewelry designer from buffalo, NY who has been designing unique one-of-a-kind pieces since 1977. She has a degree in jewelry from the State University College at Buffalo and has studied with the Gemological Institute of America, Peters Valley Craft Center in New Jersey & the Guilford Handcraft Center in Connecticut. Currently, Denise does commission work and exhibits and sells her work at juried craft shows throughout the country.

Denise is a Roycroft Master Artisan. The Roycroft Arts & Crafts Movement was founded by Elbert Hubbard in 1895. The Roycroft Mark stamped on a work of art stands for the philosophy of integrity and quality in craftsmanship.
