ARTIST STATEMENT |
 |
In nine years of working my way through art school, I never expected to make a
living at it. The hundreds of Art Majors I met at school seldom did. I assumed the school
exposure was a life pattern: working at something else, so you could afford to do your
art for your own satisfaction. This is still true of the "Fine Arts" of which
I was then a would be practitioner.
When I got back from Europe, what was to become the crafts movement was well underway,
and all the former artist and art students that were making a living were doing it in
"Craft" Media. I learned claywork and the nomadic craftshow life from
Laura Wilensky and we have both made a pleasant, productive and even profitable life from
our work and only our work for 20 years. Whooda Thunkit?

Over the past 20 years I have been jury selected to participated in the major
National shows run by The American Craft Council. Of course I've done many
minor shows as well. Too many magazine articles to mention, but my work is featured
in Pulitzer Prize winning author Jane Smileys "Catskill Crafts" and several
cookie jar reference books:
Wonderful World of Cookie Jars (Supnick)
Cookie Jars Vol. II
(Roerig).
I have also shown at the Museum for American Crafts (N.Y.C.) and at the
Renwick Gallery of The Smithsonian Institute.
